The small print

Methodology

Where the figures come from. Each company’s own recruitment pages first; then the Travel Weekly Guide to Homeworking and the Travel Gossip homeworking comparison charts, most of which were last updated in June 2026; then, for a handful of companies, franchise directories and trade-press reports. Every profile page lists which source supplied which field, with the date we read it.

Companies that hide their pricing are marked, not estimated. Several of the largest brands publish no fees at all and route enquiries to a phone call. Where that is the case the cell reads Not published. We never infer a number from a competitor, a press mention or a range.

How the sorting works. Cost and fee columns sort on the lowest published figure, because most companies price by experience or package. The “agent keeps” column also sorts on the lowest published figure, so a company advertising “up to 80%” is sorted on 80% while one quoting “60–80%” is sorted on 60% — read the text in the cell, not just the position. Fees charged as a percentage of turnover, or per booking, do not appear in the monthly column at all; they are listed on the profile page.

Not directly comparable. A franchise fee buys different things from a host agency’s joining fee, and a consortium that lets you keep 100% of commission charges you in other ways. Employed roles have no joining cost or split at all. Compare within a model type before you compare across one.

Verification is a work in progress. 10 of the 42 entries have been checked against the ABTA member search and the CAA’s ATOL register, and each profile says whether it is one of them and on what date. Treat everything else as reported, not confirmed.
